[Rokko Meets Art 2017] Maywa Denki / Pull! Rokko Cable Car
The creator focused on the Rokko Cable Car. Opened in 1932, it has been a popular mode of transportation for tourists since before the war.
Using the winding mechanism as an automatic musical instrument, and portraying the workers as a mood music group, they created a video work.

, manufactured by Ceric & Tanfany of Milan, Italy, has been in use for over 90 years since the line opened in 1932. The company's nameplate from the time of its opening is still embedded in the exterior wall of the driver's cab. The
control system, whose operation has been passed down through generations of operators and which has been carefully maintained, is scheduled to be replaced with a state-of-the-art automatic control system in 2025, 93 years after its initial installation. The skilled manual control performed by the operators will soon be a thing of the past.

Shortening the Rokko
Cable Car's ropes are approximately 1800m long. Over time, the weight of the vehicles causes the ropes to stretch, so every few years, it is necessary to shorten the ropes.
Crucial to this process is the processing of the rope ends, which connect to the vehicle. Late at night after closing hours, skilled workers ensure the safety of the cable car by cutting the ropes, processing the rope ends (separating the strands, cleaning the ends, welding with lead, etc.), and securely attaching them to the vehicle.
